FAQ
When is the best time to come for my ultrasound?
For the best 3D/4D images, we recommend booking your ultrasound between 27 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. If you’re expecting twins, we suggest coming between 24 and 28 weeks. Gender determination scans can be performed as early as 14 weeks, but we recommend allowing some time between the scan and your reveal to give baby the best chance to cooperate. If you’re looking for reassurance, ultrasound scans can be done anytime after 10 weeks, as long as your due date has been confirmed by a diagnostic ultrasound.
Will you be able to tell the baby’s gender?
Yes, we do our best to determine your baby’s gender, but sometimes it can be tricky depending on factors like fetal position, the stage of development, and amniotic fluid. If your baby isn’t cooperating during the scan, we’ll happily reschedule you at no extra cost to try again. If you’re planning a gender reveal, we recommend allowing time between your scan and the reveal to avoid any surprises. If you want to keep your baby’s gender a secret, just let us know when you arrive, and we’ll tailor the scan to ensure you don’t accidentally find out!
When is the best time for a 3D/4D ultrasound?
We recommend having your 3D/4D ultrasound between 30 and 32 weeks for optimal images. At this stage, your baby is typically in the head-down position, making it easier to get clear shots. Your baby’s features are more developed, and they may even be awake enough to show you their eyes, fingers, and toes. However, if you’re past 32 weeks, don’t worry—there’s still plenty of time for great images as long as baby has enough space to move around!
Do I need an empty or full bladder?
- 8–13 weeks: Empty your bladder 1 hour before your appointment, then drink 2 glasses (500-600ml) of water and hold.
- 14–19 weeks: Empty your bladder 1 hour before your appointment, then drink 1 glass (250-300ml) of water and hold.
- 20–40 weeks: Just empty your bladder 5 minutes before your appointment.
Do you do ultrasounds for multiples?
Yes, we absolutely love scanning expecting parents of multiples! We don’t charge extra for twins or triplets. The time will be evenly distributed among your babies. For example, if you have twins, a 30-minute session will be split into 15 minutes per baby. If you’re expecting more than 3 babies, give us a call, and we can discuss a custom package.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
We understand that life happens! If you need to cancel, please give us at least 48 hours’ notice to allow us to offer your spot to someone on our waiting list. If you need to reschedule, you can do so up to 24 hours before your appointment by following the link in your confirmation email. If you miss your appointment without notice, you will need to rebook online and forfeit your initial deposit.
What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D, and 5D ultrasounds?
- 2D Ultrasound: The traditional ultrasound providing basic black-and-white, flat images. It is commonly used for medical purposes, such as early scans and anatomy checks.
- 3D Ultrasound: This advanced method captures a still three-dimensional image of your baby, offering a clearer, more lifelike view than 2D.
- 4D Ultrasound: A moving 3D image, capturing your baby in action. You may see your baby yawn, smile, or even suck their thumb, creating a dynamic, real-time experience.
- 5D Ultrasound (Real View/HD): The latest in ultrasound technology, providing the clearest, most realistic images of your baby. With 5D, your baby’s skin tone and features are portrayed in stunning clarity, making it the closest you can get to a “real-life” view before birth.
Is this a medical ultrasound?
No, our ultrasounds are non-diagnostic and are not used for medical purposes. They are intended for keepsake images and videos only and do not replace any medical scans or advice provided by your doctor. Because our ultrasounds are elective, you do not need a referral, and unfortunately, you won’t be eligible for a rebate from private health funds.
What can I do to prepare for my ultrasound?
For scans before 14 weeks, you will need to arrive with a full bladder. The bladder helps to improve the visibility of your baby. We also recommend staying hydrated leading up to your appointment to ensure there’s enough amniotic fluid for better imaging. Drinking 8 glasses of water on the day of your appointment (and a few days leading up to it) will improve the quality of your scan.
Can I listen to my baby’s heartbeat during the ultrasound?
Yes! If you’re over 14 weeks, you can listen to your baby’s heartbeat using our ultrasound equipment. If you’re under 14 weeks, we may be able to detect the heartbeat using a Doppler. It’s such a special moment to hear, and we love recording it for you to keep. You can even purchase one of our heartbeat teddies, where we record your baby’s heartbeat and place it inside a cuddly toy for you to treasure.
When will I receive my images and videos?
All digital images, videos, and printed photos included in your package will be given to you at the end of your appointment. If you’ve chosen to purchase additional prints or digital media, they will be ready for you to take home or sent to you after your session.
